| This is more of a hype then actual facts. The game works in a similar fashion then WOW, it is highly addictive and easy to play. It is also highly polished in its art direction as much as its technical direction, leaving a nice looking game that doesn't require high-end rigs to play (a factor Blizzard uses to get a high userbase). That being said, the same was said of Lord of the Rings online - it did well but barely dented WoW. Like LOTRO, WAR has the factors to beat WoW... all resides in the X-factor (kind of like luck). |

Now I'm assuming that you mean the upcoming expansion for WoW, which asks the question why is this posted in the Warhammer Online section.
However, it might as well be answered, as for Wrath of the Lich King making WoW more "innovative" then it already is, that is unlikely. From what I have read on Wrath of the Lich King, WoW players will simply get another 10 levels to grind out, making raid gear once again nearly worthless unless it is the top tier upon release of the expansion and even then it most likely won't last long after 80. Death Knight, the first Hero class which simply needs a level 55 player to make, which will obviously result in 1000's of Death Knights running around since it is the only Hero class set to be in the expansion, not to mention Hero Classes were "on the horizon" about a month after release of WoW, along with siege warfare which is supposed to be added with Wrath of the Lich King. Looking at all of the I don't particularly see how this expansion could push WoW into the next gen market of MMOs. Considering DAoC already did siege warefare, which is also going to be in Warhammer and considering the Warhammer system is built around large scale battles and sieges, I will trust EA Mythic to make balanced siege weapon over a game that just tossed em in with an expansion. And considering Everquest did raids long before WoW was actually an idea, I don't particularly see anything that WoW will be adding that won't essentially be a repeat of what they already have except with new models and textures.
As for if you are asking if WAR can kill WoW as it seems "hyeforgot" thinks is what you are asking. It is extremely likely, granted ANY new big MMO has the ability to close in on WoWs player base, they simply need to release a game that has all the content that they said it would on release. Looking at LOTRO, AoC, and even Vanguard, they all had great starts, but they lacked much of what they had promised what would be in the game, making people burn through what they did have and simply getting bored or irritated because the content they bought the game for isn't in and quit. Consider that WoW only started out with a couple hundered thousand players, most of who at first at least were obviously satisfied with the game so they continued to play. The MMO then gets a reputation for being a good game and grows over time with players constantly joining faster then players leave. Now compare this with AoC, which had roughly 700,000 players after release, mostly due to WoWs success, but that number is likely down to around 300,000 players simply because there is very little in the game that was advertised as being in it, causing people to simply get irritated or bored and leave. This is also somewhat what happened with LotRO, at release there wasn't really any lvl 30 content, giving the game a somewhat bad reputation and making less people want to try it out. |
