| The new class is called a Death Knight. You will be able to create one if you have a character of level 55 or higher. Last time I checked, every race will be able to be a DK and there will be no new race with the expansion (only class). |

Answerer:keitoussai 2008-07-10 08:40:26 |
The new class is a Death Knight which can be used by any race. The requirement is to gain a level 55 character.
The Death Knight is similar to the DeathKnight in Warcraft 3 with some changed aspects such as being able to use dual swords.
The Death Knight is somewhat a Warlock with the tanking/melee of a Warrior.
The Death Knight has a brand new set of skills and talent as does any class and features his own armor. |

Answerer:dishonor 2008-07-10 16:48:37 |
The new Deathknight is actually a HERO class, obtainable through a quest which can be complete at or above level 55.
Talent trees include Frost, Blood, and Unholy, all of which can be interwoven for use as a Tank or DPS hybrid.

| Being a world of warcraft player i would have to say what i know and what everyone else has been telling you. The new class will be called Death Knight. It basically is what Arthas became in the warcraft III series of games. And you will be able to create one if you have a character at level 55. At first from the pre-trailer of wrath of the lich king is was talking about the death knight class being a heroic class that could only be obtained through doing a quest. But i am guessing through popular demand they decided to change it. |

As stated by WoW themselves: "The death knight combines martial prowess with dark, necromantic energies. Players might be familiar with the death knight from previously released Warcraft games -- most recently, in the campaigns for Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and the Frozen Throne expansion, the former paladin Arthas became a death knight and wreaked havoc across Azeroth and Northrend before fusing with the spirit of Ner'zhul to become the Lich King. The death knight is the first hero class in World of Warcraft; once certain criteria are met, players will unlock the ability to create a new death knight character, which will begin play at a high experience level. We're currently exploring various options for how the death knight will play and the types of abilities at its disposal, and we'll be revealing more information about this new class as we get further along in development.
Will the death knight have any abilities from previously released Warcraft games?
The way we portrayed death knights in past Warcraft games is certainly a source of inspiration, but we are still determining how best to capture that feel within the mechanics of World of Warcraft, and haven't made any final determinations on specific abilities.
What role will the death knight play in groups and raids?
In general terms, the death knight can be considered a type of class that combines damage dealing and tanking, but naturally it will have an array of unique abilities as well.
What races will be allowed to play death knights?
We haven't yet made a final determination about which races can be death knights. However, the class will be available to both the Alliance and the Horde."
As Wikipedia states it:
"The Death Knight is the first announced Hero class for World of Warcraft. Death Knights, according to Blizzard developers, will be able to fulfill the tank and DPS roles sufficiently. Death Knights can use plate armor and new rune weapons like Runeswords and Runeaxes, but they cannot use shields. According to an interview, a Death Knight's summoned pets will be more similar to a Priest's Shadowfiend, a Mage's Water Elemental, or a Druid's Treants in that they are pets with a set duration.
This class will not be accessible using normal character creation. Instead, once a player has a level 55 character, they will be able to create one Death Knight character per realm, which will begin at level 55 with a full arsenal of spells. Both the Alliance and Horde factions will have access to the class, but Blizzard is still working on the lore as to how Death Knights were accepted into the Alliance.
Instead of relying on rage, energy, or mana, the Death Knight will use a new resource system: runes, which will be displayed under the player portrait. The Death Knight will influence what abilities they are able to use by inserting special runes into their weapon, a process which can only be done outside of combat. Confirmed runes are blood, frost, and unholy. Each rune has its own unique abilities and look. Up to six runes can be set together in combinations of different numbers and types. Different spells and abilities will require various rune combinations, depending on the spell or ability's power. The runes enter a cooldown period upon use, but there are plans for spells to restore runes in combat."

So, in other words: Yes, there is a new class called a Death Knight who has been a Hero in the previous Warcraft games. He will be unlockable with a character that is level 55 or higher and will start at level 55 with a full set of spells. Both factions will be able to play him and he has a whole different style of attacking. He cannot weild shields but can tank and DPS.
I hope that helps. :) |

| The death knight is available to all races. If you look at the updates to the other classes for the litch king expansion, paladins are going to loose out to death knights, i'm assuming blizzard is making paladins tame so as to make death knights more appealing. |

| apparently death knight class won't be available for all races...this was stated from the very beginning of the issue...as no other future possible hero classes won't be available to all races either...I mean imagine a night elf(life and nature lovers) be a death knight...in my opinion the death knight hero class will be available(for certain) to undead(horde) and to humans(alliance) because of our weak willpower to resist evil and temptation of any kind( that's what we humans are like)...and even taurens have a very small chance of being death knights...as taurens behave fairly like night elves...ofcourse influenced by the fact that they are part of the horde |

Pre-requisites for a Death Knight are as follows:
Lvl 58 on any Race in any Class
Then you'll be able to create a Death Knight on that Race ONLY
Death Knight you created will begin at lvl 58.
For Death Knight talent tree, I recommend this site
[Do keep in mind this talent tree is only in the works and is subject to change.]
Btw, Death Knights are described as Rogues in Plate. Hope that shows you how OP they are.

| it is not a race it is more a new class. you have to be level 55 and above and then you will be able to upgrade to the death knight class like how Arthas was a death knight and you will have new spells and powers and be able to go to the arctic lands where the Lich King resides. |
