Best for solo is Dark templar...
Have good dps and def.
Also can heal.

A dark templar either can be a healer , tank or dps in party.
But not recommend for beginners :P If you are not pro at gaming it would be difficult to play with.

To be dark templar you need to be Soldier first.

The best class in ANY game is the one that makes you happy. Always play what YOU want. You could miss out on a good experience otherwise.

Technically, best class at this moment is Tempest of Set, but nerf is incoming :D
In other hand, best class is the one that you feel better playing it.

The guy who posted above about Dark Templars is leading you down the wrong path.

First you dont become a 'soldier' first, there are no class paths or upgrades in the game. I dont think he's even played it to say something like that. You start off with what you are, and at level 10 you get 3 feat trees to invest your points in. All 'soldier' archetype classes share a soldier tree of feats. (same with healers having 1 shared tree, rogues to rogues etc) With the other 2 trees being class dependent. (Dark Templar has Depravity and Desecration trees)

Secondly 1h shield (noone really uses talismans on the DT, even with the new patch to improve talisman mastery) is the lowest form of dps available in the game. Also has the smallest amount of reach in which distance a combo has to finish in to land a successful hit.

Atm they (Dark Templars) are one of the 2 weakest classes overall (Assassin being the other).

Sure they can pve solo fine (all classes can really), but due to the mechanics of the game currently favoring casters (they dont need to use combos to attack, so outside of a resist they cant really 'miss' an attack that all the melee suffer in a moving battle. They dont need to use stamina for their attacks and sprinting uses stamina so they can kite melee classes around easier, whereas if the melee chases them they lose the stamina they need to try and combo them with in the first place. Also biggest kick in the face is that defense rating of armor does not apply in pvp. So cloth = plate in terms of damage you take from other players. This only changes if you have immunities/resists through gems or gear stats on your armor), id strongly recommend you to seek out a Tempest of Set (ToS) or a Priest of Mitra (PoM).

Those 2 are supposed to be 'healers' but in this game, healers can have the highest dps and easiest aoe grinds of any characters. It's kinda weird like that to see a healer nuke the crap out of someone, heal themselves and keep on rocking.

Whatever aoe group your dark templar could take on, a ToS could do more and do it easier too.

So Tempest of Set first (really well made class, with free root and stun available at base line, together with aoe, direct nukes and strong healing), then Priest of Mitra are your choices.

Also since you are a healer, all raids will take you later on (if you ever played wow you know what its like to be a rogue that wasnt needed in raids, healers never have that issue of being picked over.)

Best for solo is either Tempest of Set or Dark Templar (only if you go down the life tap feats in his tree.)

Best in a group would be a Herald of Xotil (sp?) They are invaluable and people love to see them.

It basically is up to your play style. Do you group more or solo more?

There are several classes that are excellent at soloing, you've got Tempest of Set, Priest of Mitra, Barbarian, etc.

Tempest of Set is probably among the best solo class, being able to both dish some serious damage out and heal when needed.

Priest of Mitra is a close second when built for AoE grinding but as I understand, the recent nerfs did some serious damage.

Barbarian can dish some serious damage, simply meaning they are a good solo class.

Conqueror built 2 handed solos somewhat slow but has an incredible amount of survivability.

Ranger solos well until about 55-60 when AoE is a requirement, crossbow can be used to supplement this, but I personally can't stand the speed on a crossbow.

Demonologist as I understand can solo quite well, although I've never played one and haven't seen them in action too much.

Herald of Xotli have some problems soloing earlier on, but at least before they buffed the 70 mobs, they could AoE grind slightly slower then a PoM at 70 .

I can't particularly comment on Dark Templar, Guardian, Necro, or Bear Shaman.

As for Assassin, I wouldn't suggest trying to hit 80 solo.

Although the largest part you would want to look in to is the server set that you are in.

On a PvP server, you don't want to roll a Demo, they go down too fast, same with Heralds if a Rogue type gets the jump on them. While any Rogue, Soldier, and PoM/ToS become some of the best characters to roll, not counting the Assassin and Ranger loss of AoE at end game.

As for a PvE server, you may want to drift away from Assassin or Ranger, the difficulties of leveling them simply isn't worth where they end up, which is being a PvP style class aiming at dealing single target damage to a raid boss or playing minigames over and over.
